What is Mindfulness?
Mindfulness is being fully present. Being right here in this moment. It’s being aware of our surroundings, where we are and what we are doing. It’s knowing our emotions and feelings but not reacting or feeling overwhelmed based on our surroundings.
Mindfulness has nothing to do with religion. Although some of the practices have been adapted from religion. The meditation practice side of mindfulness is just you sitting with yourself. Observing your thoughts and feelings come and go like waves in the ocean with no judgement.
It may sound easy. In some ways it is. But it is a practice and like any skills that is to be learned, mindfulness requires practice.
